💪 Pushups

The classic. The camera reads your elbow angles and counts the honest ones.

📱 Set up your camera

  • Prop your phone upright on the floor, screen facing you — leaning on a water bottle or a wall works.
  • Get close: your head about an arm's length from the phone, facing it. This is a face-on exercise, not a side-on one.
  • Both arms need to be visible — shoulders, elbows and wrists are what the referee watches.
  • Decent light on you, not behind you.

The camera feed never leaves your phone — the counting happens on-device.

🏋️ The form

  1. 1Hands under your shoulders, body in one straight line from head to heels.
  2. 2Lower until your elbows pass 90° — chest near the floor.
  3. 3Press back up until your arms are fully straight. That lockout is what completes the rep.
  4. 4Keep your hips level: sagging or piking moves your shoulders and confuses nobody but you — the referee reads elbows either way.

🤖 What the referee counts

  • A rep is one full cycle: arms straight (about 150° or more at the elbow), down past roughly 90°, back to straight.
  • Hold the top position for about half a second first — that's what arms the counter.
  • Your first rep only counts if you pause at the top before starting it. Dropping straight into rep one as you crawl into position looks identical to setting up, so the referee waits about a second — get set, then go.
  • Both arms have to agree. One elbow reading bent while the other reads straight is a tracking glitch, not a rep, and it's ignored.
  • Going too shallow is the honest reason reps don't count: if the elbows never pass ~105°, the rep never happened.

🤔 Why didn't that rep count?

Reps stop counting mid-set
Usually depth fading with fatigue — the bottom of your rep is creeping up. Sink until the elbows clearly bend past 90° and the count resumes.
The first rep never counts
You started it too fast. Settle into the top position, hold a beat, then lower. Setup motion inside the first second is deliberately ignored.
Counter won't arm at all
The camera can't see both arms confidently. Move closer, face the phone, and check nothing (hair, towel, shadow) is covering a wrist or elbow.
Set ended on its own
No rep for 10 seconds while you were out of frame ends the set — that's the walk-away finish, working as intended.

The referee is waiting.
